{{LIKE_THIS}} is a placeholder. It must be reviewed by a lawyer before it is published or relied on. This policy explains what information WeTeach collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. WeTeach is a private communication app that a school uses to connect its teachers and staff with parents and guardians.
1. Who we are
WeTeach is operated by Dunware LLC (“we”, “us”), {{COMPANY_MAILING_ADDRESS}}. For the purposes of student information, we act on behalf of, and under the direction of, the school that uses WeTeach.
2. Who this policy covers
WeTeach accounts are for adults only:
- School admins and teachers invited by their school.
- Parents and guardians who join a class with a code and are approved by the teacher.
Students do not have accounts and cannot sign in.
3. Information we collect
From adults who use the app
- Account details: name, email address, profile photo (optional), and your sign-in method (email code or Google).
- School relationships: the school and classes you belong to, your role, and for parents which children you are linked to.
- Content you create: posts, photos, files, comments, reactions, direct messages, staff chat messages, events, permission slips and typed signatures, and (for teachers) PGP tracker entries and evidence files.
- Settings: notification preferences, office hours and language preference.
- Device and usage data: push notification tokens, app version, device type, and basic logs needed to run and secure the service.
What we don’t collect
- We don’t collect precise location, contacts or advertising identifiers.
- We don’t use third-party analytics or advertising trackers on this website or in the WeTeach apps.
4. Students
Students appear only as roster names (typically a first name and last initial) so that parents can link to the right child and teachers can approve them. We do not collect student grades, attendance, birthdates, ID numbers, or contact details. Teachers may post photos or files that show or mention students; those posts are visible only to approved members of that class or school, and schools set their own rules for what staff may post.
5. How we use information
- To provide the service: show feeds, deliver messages, send push notifications, collect slip signatures.
- To keep the community safe: screen parent comments and parent-to-teacher messages with an automated moderation service, and hold flagged content for teacher review.
- To support you and fix problems.
- To improve WeTeach, using aggregated or de-identified information.
6. No sale, no ads
We do not sell or rent personal information. We do not show ads, and we do not use information from WeTeach to build advertising profiles or for targeted advertising.
7. Who we share it with
- People in your school, according to the app’s rules (for example, a class post is visible to that class’s approved members and staff).
- Service providers that run parts of WeTeach for us under contract, such as hosting and database (Convex), sign-in (Clerk), push notification delivery (Expo, Apple and Google), and content moderation (TypeSafe’s Jev, with OpenAI’s moderation service as a backup). They may use the data only to provide their service to us.
- Legal reasons: when required by law, or to protect the safety of a student or anyone else.
- Business transfer: if Dunware LLC is acquired, this policy’s protections continue to apply to existing data.

8. Schools and FERPA
Where information shared through WeTeach is part of a student’s education record, we intend to act as a “school official” with a legitimate educational interest under the school’s direct control, as described in the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). We use such information only to provide WeTeach to the school, and we will sign a data privacy agreement with schools on request. {{STATE_STUDENT_PRIVACY_LAWS}}
9. Children and COPPA
WeTeach is not directed to children and does not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13. Students do not sign in. Where a school’s use of WeTeach involves information about children, the school provides any consent required under the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) on behalf of parents, for the school’s educational purposes only. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
10. Retention
We keep information while your account and your school’s subscription are active. At the end of a school year classes are archived (read-only). When a school stops using WeTeach, we delete or return its data within {{RETENTION_DAYS}} days unless the school asks otherwise or the law requires us to keep it. Backups are overwritten on a rolling schedule.
11. Access and deletion
- You can view and edit your profile in the app.
- You can ask us for a copy of your information, to correct it, or to delete your account, by contacting us from the email on your account (see Support).
- Parents may also ask their school to review or correct education records as FERPA allows.
- Some content may stay visible after you leave where it belongs to a school’s record (for example, a signed permission slip), shown without your profile.

12. Security
Data is encrypted in transit, access is limited to people who need it, and every request checks that the person belongs to the school and class involved. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects your information we will notify you and your school as the law requires.
13. Changes
We’ll post changes here and tell schools and users in the app before material changes take effect.
